About The Historic Bara Ganesh Temple (Mathura)

According to the Varaha Purana, Lord Ganesha was appointed by the demigods as the principal boundary guardian (Dwarapala) protecting the northern entryway of holy Mathura. The Pandavas re-consecrated the shrine during their post-war pilgrimage. The grand deity was hidden inside household water wells by priests during medieval invasions and successfully returned to its altar when peace prevailed
